Personally, I love movies, and I love the experience of seeing them in the theater. However, as a pretty busy guy, I'm always behind on things I would like to see, so there tend to be just as many movies on the video store shelf as in the theaters that I have been wanting to see. This is where I often have a conversation with myself about the best way to spend my hard-earned dollars.

With the popularity of high quality AV systems in our homes, including high-definition video and digital surround sound, high-quality in-home movie experiences are getting better and better while they are getting less and less expensive. On the other hand, you now have to take out a second mortgage to afford a movie in the theater, and that doesn't include popcorn. I really had to start questioning the price of things when the movie part of "Dinner & a Movie" began to cost about as much as the dinner part.

Well, Studio Movie Grill is hoping to entice you back to their theaters during September for the popular movie and dinner combination. They were already a bit less expensive than many other theaters, with a full adult ticket price of $9.25, compared to AMC's price of $10.00. Adding in meal service, a full bar, and complimentary refills on sodas, water, and tea added a bit to the budgetary benefits of SMG. However, that ticket to G.I. Joe that will cost you $9.25 tonight will only be $5.00 if you wait a week.

All Monday through Thursday showings at every Studio Movie Grill will feature $5.00 tickets, regardless of the showtime. The only catch to this deal is that it's not good on weekends. I can live with that. My weekends are full enough anyway. Who has time to add in a movie?

So now you're probably wondering what second rate movies will be available for your $5.00. SMG has actually started doing a much better job of stocking the film selections in their locations. The listings are out for August 28 and will run at least through September 3rd, so wait for the 1st to get your discount. You'll want to check with your chosen location, but here are some selected titles from the upcoming listings: The Final Destination (R), Taking Woodstock (R), Inglourious Bastards (R), District 9 (R), Shorts (PG), G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (PG-13), Julie & Julia (PG-13), The Time Traveler's Wife (PG-13), and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (R).

To top off the ticket price special, the Dallas location at Central Expressway and Royal Lane has recently installed new Dolby 3-D projection equipment. They are currently showing The Final Destination in 3-D just in case two dimensions of gruesome ways to die wasn't quite enough for you. If that's not quite your style, then you can catch one of the upcoming 3-D shows, such as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey.
